Overview

Originally the client engaged B&H to upgrade their theatre control, however after we showed the client a range of control solutions available and explained the benefits of the current range of AMX solutions, what started as a theatre system upgrade quickly became a whole house AV project incorporating an entire upgrade of home lighting, audio, video and environmental control.

Constraints to the project as immediately encountered were cabling access and the expansiveness of the grounds and buildings, being a two storey home spanning some several hundred metres. The client’s wishes presented us with cabling requirements for areas of the home that were inaccessible.  To get around this the proposal to the client included several aesthetic and architectural changes to the house itself that would improve the focus and highlight the function of several rooms but also allow us to run new cabling.

Completion of this project required our solution to be designed around the ability integrate several pre-existing systems already in place in the house. AMX was the obvious choice to replace individual control of: an expansive C-Bus lighting and environmental system (including gates, waterfall, lighting), a landmark distributed audio system, Pacom CCTV system (encompassing the entire grounds with 16 cameras), air conditioning and stand alone television systems.

The proposed system included several AMX 7” and 10” Modero surface mounted panels, 8.4” wireless touch panels, a 180” Stewart Projection Screen in the Theatre and a number of plasma and LCD panels throughout the house.

Fully utilized throughout the project is the intercom VOIP function of the AMX touch panels, linking the various living areas and bedrooms of the house.
The security camera system has been integrated with the control system to allow 4 live feeds from 4 (user selectable) cameras displayed on any touch panel.  The user then has the option to select any one of the four feeds to be viewed in full screen mode (on touch panel).  Also the user can select any of the 16 cameras to be viewed on any of the newly fitted and connected displays throughout the home. A new AMX Metreau Entry Communicator replaced the existing gate entry interface, integrated with the system allowing a user to view the street entry/guest and talk with them in real time (without needing to press buttons etc…) from any of the installed/wireless touch panels. Autopatch distribution system implemented over the house – comprising of component video, composite video and stereo audio switching, with a total of 3 new Autopatch enclosures.

Worthy of mention is the Cellar, as the client requested during original design process that this space be turned into an entertainment room consisting of one 60” plasma panel and two 42” plasma panels.  During installation work the client changed the scope for this room, adding a “Business Equipment” system.  This meant changing designs for a new ceiling and finishings going into this room; to cater for a recessed motorised projection screen, projector cabling and mounting and an electronic whiteboard. The end result is a room boasting a wealth of functionality and features.
